In addition to the variety of general medical and surgical dermatological services available at American Dermatology Associates, we are proud to service the Kansas City metropolitan area as one of the few centers offering the following test and treatments:
Skin Cancer
The incidence of skin cancer is inarguably on the rise. American Dermatology Associates recognize the need to be diligent in identifying patients at risk for skin cancer. We screen our patients for signs of sun damage, precancerous skin lesions, unusual (atypical) moles, and skin cancer. Our Board Certified Dermatologists diagnose and treat benign and cancerous skin lesions. Dr. Belsito and Dr. Prossick have a wealth of experience performing many different types of medical and surgical procedures for skin cancer treatment depending on the patient’s needs and type of cancer found.
Patch Testing for Allergies of the Skin
Patch testing is a way of identifying whether a substance that comes in contact with the skin is causing inflammation of the skin called contact dermatitis. The test involves the application of various test substances to the skin under adhesive tape that are then left in place for 48 hours. The skin is then examined a further 48 hours later for any response. This can help the doctor decide which allergens you are allergic to and identify those that could be aggravating your dermatitis. The doctor will then be able to advise how you can avoid the allergens.
Phototherapy
Phototherapy may be a solution for skin conditions that do not respond to topical medications alone or for lesions that are too extensive for topical treatment. During phototherapy, the patient’s skin or just the affected area is exposed to ultraviolet light. Patients usually receive between 2 and 5 treatments per week. During treatment, the skin is exposed to UVA or UVB rays, which is generated from special lamps. To enhance penetration of phototherapy rays, an emollient is usually applied before exposure.
Botox for Hyperhidrosis
BOTOX® is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating that is not adequately managed with topical agents. BOTOX® treatment helps control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.
